Dan Burton correctly focused on 30 hr NDF-D. But the "studies" he mentioned feeding BMR corn silage were not
done correctly. Dan needs to look at a three period switch-back design with a minimum of 3-week
periods. His "snap-shot" approach is very misleading. The silage yield data was very important!
This is the way to compare yield comparisons with DM-content correction. The first year vs. second year consideration
may also be very important especially if fertilization practice and corn root worm control are different.
The comparison of use of BMR corn silage when milk price is low and feed costs are high shows the situation producers are in today as they make planting decissions for the 2009 corn silage crop.
